The Union of Myanmar (formerly Burma) sits snugly on the map between China, Thailand, India, Laos and Bangladesh; however, conditions in Myanmar are far from comfortable.
An estimated 34% of Myanmar's rural population has no access to clean water, 32% of children under 5 years of age are malnourished and suffer from stunting, and there are over 50,000 child soldiers - more than any other nation in the world.
The hardship that constitutes 'daily life' in Myanmar doesn't end there. Approximately 23% of the population live below the poverty line, 80% of the government's income is related to the drug trade and one in every fourteen children die before they reach their first birthday.
People in Myanmar lead heroic lives. Destitute children (there are over 1 million orphans) gather together in remote forests and mountains and learn to survive - their lives far removed from what you or I would consider a childhood.
Thousands of men, women and children are in severe need of fundamental essentials such as food, water, sanitation, shelter, safety and education.
With hard work, persistence and commitment, GraceWorks has devised simple but effective Programs to help combat these distressing conditions. Improving the health, hygiene and quality of life for the Myanmar people is GraceWork's key focus.
